Overview

The Dawn Moth is a peculiar insect that is reminiscent of a regular moth with a couple of notable key differences. These differences being that of the size of the moth and that of the coloring that reminds people of the rising dawn. However, it is said to be a sign of good luck if one is to see the Dawn Moth making its migration to the few nesting grounds it seems to have in Pannotia. Originally the insect was said to be seen flying through a strange light as dawn began to break, while others believe that to be the origins of a fairy tale being used as scientific evidence of such. Despite the scholarly debate around the insectoid, one thing is certain about it; the Dawn Moth is a beloved creature by most if not all peace loving folks and of painters alike. Said to bring inspiration to anyone who witnesses one, specifically traversing at dawn, it is said to be a blessing when getting even a glimpse of the peaceful moth.

History

While much is debated about the Dawn Moth, the history of the creature is rather straightforward and does in fact read much like a fairytale to anyone who would listen. But the story hasn’t changed in the many years following the first initial sighting of the creature, much to the displeasure of many zoologists and scientists at hand. The Dawn Moth was originally seen several hundred years ago passing from one realm into that of the current one. Witnessed by a Feline Ferox explorer by the name of Rho’zan who was mapping out the local forests in the area of where his family had made its home. He had managed to spot the strange fluctuating light as dawn broke and the large moth, being nearly two feet in length, peacefully began its fluttering through the air and down into the canopy of trees nearby to a large flower field.

While initially wary of the Dawn Moth, the Ferox made his approach to observe and sketch the creature as it had caught his attention fully at this point. Initially taking note of how the moth seemingly traveled in groups of four to five, while its size was intimidating it seemingly still was more focused on that of the flora and nectar around. Yet, as the sun rose even higher in the sky, the Dawn Moths had begun to make their way out of the field and far into the distance once more, leaving more questions than answers in that time. Yet, the tales of luck soon began to follow as once Rho’zan had returned to his village, he had an immense string of good luck to follow which he had immediately chalked up to seeing such a sight. Although, this is where many tend to believe it was just coincidence that such occurred shortly after first observing the moth.

Either way, to the presentday, the Dawn Moth is found just as the sun begins to rise at dawn in various forests and large flower fields before inevitably leaving as the sun rises higher and higher into the sky. While some reports have been said of some Dawn Moths making their permanent home in these forests, they seemingly sleep the majority of the day away and are particularly active when the sun dims in the sky whether it be for dawn or dusk. However, the coloring of the moth has always stuck out so it has avoided being called a dusk moth in turn.

Anatomy

The most frequent description of the Dawn Moth is that of it being a moth with pigments akin to a brilliant pink dawn, a large insect that travels between the Fey and Pannotia at large. However, such is a rather simplified version of such an insect in truth. The Dawn Moth is a lot more complicated in appearance than that of simple coloring and patterns being the same throughout. The moth itself can fluctuate in coloring from pinks, yellows, and oranges, to even some soft blues that remind people of the rising sky when the sun just begins to rise. While the patterns on the Dawn Moth is mostly different between males and females of the species, that of softer line patterns being seen on the male Dawn Moths while the females have much sharper lines and patterning to the fuzz on their body.

The fuzz of the Dawn Moth itself is extremely sought after in truth, something that has led the creature to be hunted by poachers and those of extreme wealth to flaunt something of elegance. However, in more recent years it has begun to get to the point that even governments are getting involved in outlawing the hunting of such a creature that doesn’t even fight back against hunters when attacked. This has, however, turned into another issue of various people beginning to try and steal the eggs of the Dawn Moth to begin the domestication process of it, but no one has been successful as of yet. When left alone to naturally run its course of its life span, the moth itself seemingly lives five to six years and it tends to migrate every six months to a different area, typically between the Fey and otherwise.

Additional Information

  • The Dawn Moth’s fur seems to be completely natural in its coloring, leaving it to be frequently sought after given its unique coloring beyond the smooth texture it seems to have as well.
  • The scales of the Dawn Moth’s wings seemingly have a strange patterning to them when looked at closely, some have also wondered what alchemical advances they could pose as well.

Trivia

  • The only current so-called domesticated Dawn Moth is that of a human in Provienciere who has one part of a menagerie of creatures in a large garden house, but even then it’s mostly a pet for show than any actual domestication of it.
