Overview
The Mothball is a strange yet popular choice of animal among tailors, young children, and older folks looking for a fairly easygoing pet to raise. Normally described as a small cat-like creature that looks like a white fluffy moth, it is rather petite, making it a popular pet to carry for the more aristocratic folk. Beyond such, not much is known about the origins of the creature, many scientists debate that they are related to the Dawn Moth, being what is left of them after they migrate back to the Fey Wilds. Others believe in a variety of fairy tales surrounding the Mothball, from it being a cat that fell into a Fey Lord’s favor and given a unique appearance. None are sure which is correct, but not many are bothered by the fact.
History
Once again a creature that is shrouded in mystery with science and myth offering differing opinions on how such a creature came to be. While a popular animal in the public eye, not much is known about its origins and when it came to be. Some would claim that it existed long before even the Venyra in the world, given its connection to the Fey, while others would argue it has only been around a few hundred years. But two popular origins have made their way into the public eye in more recent times, either due to both sides heavily encouraging the spread of the source or just from debates between children at school.
The popular scientific origin that is promoted by scholars and the more literal thinking folk in the world, is that the Mothball is a descendent to that of the Dawn Moth itself and was born in the forests of Galudon when such a moth was unable to return to its usual nesting grounds in the Fey Wilds. The Mothball then later hatched from the eggs of the Dawn Moth that raised it in the forests in Galudon specifically many hundreds to even thousands of years ago according to some. And while there has been evidence to support such a longstanding time of the creature being around, it’s hard to say just how long it's been around exactly. Much to the disappointment of the various zoologists in Galudon today.
And the other such popular origin story is that of a small yet simple children’s tale known as “The Fey Lord’s Cat” surrounding the idea of a small white feline that had met with one of the many Fey Lords. Which one it is changes depending on the region that it’s told in, some believe it was the Merrymaker herself and some argue it was that of Auld Mossbrows, but no one knows for sure. The gist of the tale surrounds that of the cat finding its way to the Fey Lord deep in the woods after it got lost in a storm. Taking pity on the creature along with a fondness for it after it seemed to follow after them, the cat was changed into that of the Mothball. The fluffiness, seemingly to help it adapt and survive in colder climates. The story always seems to end with the creature having a happy family of other Mothballs by the end of it hidden away in a secret glade
Physical Appearance
The Mothball is a small feline-esque creature that stands barely under a foot tall and can be up to a foot in length, or even smaller in some cases, with small moth-like wings at its side. On top of its head, it has two antennas that it seemingly uses to locate and see in the dark. Many variations of the Mothball exist, but a popular variation is that of the Mini-Mothball which can be typically held in both hands of an individual. The petite creature has six paws it frequently uses rather than the small amount of flight the wings it has grants them. While normally quite thin, most of the body of the creature is actually tufts of fur and fluff that are popular amongst many tailors in the north for the softness of it.
Naturally, the creature itself originated in forests but in more recent times it has become a popular animal to have in cities given its small size. And in more industrialized places, they can become overpopulated as they seemingly feed on the waste of the various industrial areas without much issue. They have been known to frequently infest and get stuck in chimneys as well, the moth fur on their bodies getting stained with the soot to dye them unintentionally dark colors
Additional Information
- The Mothball seemingly ages rather slowly compared to regular cats, being able to get up to nearly 40 years old in the wild, and in captivity one is known to having been able to live to 50 years old.
- Many children tend to grow up with a Mothball as a companion when learning to be trusted with such a creature, given their rather passive and friendly nature to those who show them no intentional harm.

- The Mothball frequently eats a variety of things, including some fabrics and bugs which some tailors use as a way to get rid of unusable fabrics. Or seen as a pest that eat through their nice clothing and cloth.
- The Mothball is a surprisingly clever creature despite it all, understanding basic commands and even being able to pick up further advanced commands.
- The Mothball is surprisingly attracted by lights, even able to be lured out of a room by turning all of the lights off and putting a light in a hallway.
