Overview

The Prowlure is a creature who lurks deep in jungles, a common warning given to anyone planning to explore said places even. Such a monster is known by tales passed by old hunters and horror writers alike, something thought to be a mere fairytale like the Corphaun. But with tales, inspiration is brought from somewhere even if it is a nightmare made living. Prowlures are hostile creatures that lurk in the tree tops in large webs that have been said to be used in the creation of various items of magic origin. Being known for its way of hunting others, usually by the temptation from alluring smells that appeal to the creature or individual in question. Sometimes fooling others with a glowing light on a dark night, something that people often mistake for a friendly traveler ahead.

History

Little is unfortunately known regarding when exactly this monster came to be, some say it was a mutation to come from the Equilibrium that occurred ages ago. Others would say that it was here long ago, before such a time, and was a creature that was docile amongst the jungles. Some would say that the Prowlure was once a friendly being that would trade its silk webbing for other goods brought by travelers. Either way, something had corrupted the once docile being into something out of nightmares, that much is certain. Such a creature had been disturbed too much, leaving it to be a monster out on the hunt for others that enter its territory over time, even going as far as chasing other Prowlures out of their territories.

One notable experience with the creature was that of a lone Thalzar venturing out into the wild jungles of Ellawren to further their own ambitions. Zhori was the name of the young man who had heard tales of something with the most beautiful silks. Wanting to gift it to another who he was interested in and was a weaver of sorts, he deemed it an appropriate way of showing off both his abilities as a fighter and as a show of interest of the weaver. So off he went deep into the jungles, following the trails and other such assumed creatures but was soon thoroughly lost once the sun began to go down. Yet, a faint glow in the distance caught his eye, assuming it to be a place of solace as it turned to night, but he was far from correct. He had wandered right into the Prowlure’s trap, being caught and trapped in the webbing.

No one is sure what happened to him after such, as the story was left unfinished by whomever was passing it down as even they themselves were unsure of what occurred. However, the typically scarred Thalzar turned weaver who asked about the story, held an odd interest in the tale. It has turned into a cautionary tale amongst any who will listen, even with such a creature with a murky history as its own it had certainly made an impact.

Physical Appearance

One thing to note right off the bat about the Prowlure is its resemblance to that of a giant black widow spider with that of a monstrous head that has been said to remind people of angler fish when described. Long fangs, two strange antennas that droop down in front of its face with glowing orbs that seem to alight when in immensely dark areas to help with further travel. The body of the creature, and just in general, is several feet tall, next to four to five feet tall with its length being more than five to six feet in length. The legs of the creature being the longest parts of it, used to propel itself along trees to make its home far up in the treetops of the jungle. Oddly enough, it seems to be an immensely light creature that can hop from branch to branch with ease after many years growing in the jungles they make their homes.

The Prowlure has an odd secretion on the spider-like legs that seemingly gives off a pleasant smell to other creatures, which confuses many who have tried to study the creature immensely. Soon enough becomes just a warning when deep in the jungle, beware anything that smells too sweet and avoid lights in the dark of the jungle. But even with such warnings, it has been waived off a lot of the time for overreaction. Yet, once the poor adventurer finds itself in the webbing of the Prowlure, they learn otherwise. The webbing is created from the lower body of the creature, able to shoot it out to trap others or even grabbing anything with precision that has put some hunters to shame.

Overview

The lifespan of a Prowlure is extremely long from what some have observed, however, they are typically cut short by hunters pushing back the monster when they are properly armed. However, it has been noted while their legs seem quite strong, they are extremely fragile when cut with a sword or axe.

The sticky webbing the creature has, known as the Zhorrian Silk Web, is an odd blue coloring rather than the typical white web spiders are known for.

Trivia

  • Often called the ‘Walking Angler Fish’, such a creature has an odd similarity to the aquatic animal, even if morbidly so in its ways of hunting others.
  • The sticky webbing it has, if properly dried and worked, has a rather tough quality to it, leaving it to be desired for anyone who wishes for something light yet strong in durability when out exploring.
