Welcome to Ironhurst, the vibrant capital of the Kingdom of Galudon! This guide will walk you through the steps of creating a unique and engaging character to bring your stories to life within our community.

Coming up with a core concept

Think about the kind of character you'd enjoy playing in the world of Pannotia. Consider these initial questions:

  • What kind of roleplay draws you in? Are you interested in political intrigue, slice of life, scholarly roleplay, the criminal underground?
  • What kind of role do you envision your character filling in the scene you prefer? Are they a cunning merchant, a brave warrior, a wise scholar, a mischievous rogue, a powerful mage, a predatory vampire?
  • Are there any particular races that interest you? Any curses or magic schools that stand out at a glance?

Creating a Character Application

Our community uses a character application sheet to help you flesh out your character and provide us with the necessary information. You can find the template for this in the #character-application-template channel on our Discord server. Open the template, press file, and select make a copy to create your own sheet, ready to go! As you go through the following steps, you'll gradually fill out this application with details about your character.

Origin, Name, and Appearance

With your concept forming and your application ready to be filled, it's time to start pinning down some of the more foundational, concrete details.

Race: Based on your concept, which of the available races feels like the best fit for your character? Which ones interest you the most? While the races each have their own page, a simple summary of each is below:

  • Humans: Adaptable and fractious, found throughout Galudon and mainland Aesox.
  • Dwarves: Honest, resilient, and long-lived, the Dwarves are a belligerent but steadfast people.
  • Venyra: Elegant high elves with a strong affinity for magic and hextech, primarily from the western land of Ellawren.
  • Thalzar: Fierce dark elves, the warrior caste of the elven people, also from Ellawren.
  • Nephi: Wild wood elves who live in harmony with nature in Pannotia's forests.
  • Eiruks: Ingenious orcish engineers, now a free people after generations of servitude.
  • Giruk: Quick-witted but small goblins, the offshoot cousins of the Eiruk.
  • Nymphs: Mysterious beings born from the land itself, with diverse connections to nature.
  • Infernals: Charismatic but volatile individuals who appear from ancient battlefields on distant isles.
  • Ferox: Diverse animal-people with a staggering range of appearances and cultures.
  • Tzchaari: Skilled bug-like artisans from a faraway island, now venturing into the wider world.

While not races, there are also several arcane afflictions that can heavily change a character's nature. These come both in the form of the Curses, powerful and infectious mystical plagues such as vampirism and lycanthropy, and more unusual Diseases such as the mutagenic Kaymer's Pox, or even becoming Undead.

Origin: Where in the world of Pannotia did your character originate? Were they born in Ironhurst, a rural hamlet in Aesox, the Elven lands of Ellawren? Think about their race and concept both! The Early_Life_in_Galudon page provides some educational institutions that might help narrow down an identity, as may their race's page.

Name: Choose a name that feels appropriate for their race and origin. Consider any naming conventions or cultural sounds that are common for their people.

Age: How old is your character?

Appearance: Fill the relevant sections with key details about your character's appearance. What do they look like? What kind of clothing do they typically wear? How tall (or short) are they?

Personality and Backstory

Now that you have a clearer idea of who your character is, let's start to detail their personality and backstory!

  • Personality: What are your character's core personality traits? Are they kind and compassionate, aloof, ambitious? What goals drive them forward - money, fame, family? How do they appear to others, and how does that differ from who they are inside? Aim for at least three paragraphs - one for how they are within, one for how they come off to others, and a final paragraph for their main goals and aspirations.
  • Backstory: What key events or experiences have shaped your character? Consider their race, origin, upbringing, major life choices, significant relationships, and any pivotal moments that have defined them, as well as how this led to who they are today. You don't need to include every twist and turn, but make sure to cover the broad strokes and the key details! Aim for at least two paragraphs.

Think about how your concept so far fits with your personality and backstory. Does it feel cohesive? Is there something you want to go back and change?

Bonuses: Many talents also provide extra bonuses, such as free points in other talents (remember, these bonus points cannot be used to take an additional Tier 3 talent!), active skills, or extra attribute points. Be sure to note these down in your application.

For those interested in the intricacies of combat, you can find a detailed explanation on our Combat System page. While discussion is strongly encouraged before killing another character, permission is not required. But don't fret! Should your character meet an untimely end, our community offers a system for Character Revivals, ensuring death is not the end. More information on this can be found on the page.

Record your chosen talents and any associated attribute increases, skills, and bonuses in your character application! Be sure to specify where your points, both talent and attribute, come from as in the template.

Finalising your Application

Take a moment to review your character application thoroughly!

  • Ensure that all sections are complete and that the information you've provided is consistent and reflects the character you want to play.
  • Double-check your talent point allocation and any associated bonuses.
  • Make sure no sections are left blank.
  • Check that your username is at the top.

Submitting your Application for review

Once you are satisfied with your character application, it's time to submit it for review by our narrative staff! To do this, please create a new thread in the #character-application-submissions channel on our Discord server. In your thread, please post a link to your completed character application. Our team will review it and provide feedback or approval as soon as possible.

We're excited to see the character you create, and welcome you to the world of Pannotia! If you have any questions during this process, feel free to ask on our Discord.
