Character Talent points are an integral part of character design as they dictate the proficiency and overall prowess of any original character. Gears of Galudon requires characters to assign 8 Talent Points across a number of Talent sub-categories and these provide Ability Modifiers that affect your Character’s Overall Ability Totals. The only limitation is that you may only assign 3 points to a single Talent Point subcategory. Abilities are the primary categories: Constitution, Strength, Dexterity, Scrutiny, Mythics and Cursed Path. By placing a talent point into one of their subcategories, you gain an Ability Modifier (These are listed in their own sections as well as beside each Talent Point Investment.) These Ability Modifiers are explained under each of the Ability Categories below, but ultimately impact how high of a dice roll you will need to roll to succeed in any required situation. Some Talents (the subcategories) can also impact Ability Modifiers so it is important to understand and read each one you place one of your Talent Points into.
Welcome to Ironhurst, the vibrant capital of the Kingdom of Galudon! This guide will walk you through the steps of creating a unique and engaging character to bring your stories to life within our community.

Point Allocation
Allocation Rules
There are two rules dictate how many points you can spend, and when they max out:
* Every Character regardless of anything has exactly 8 points to spend between the above Talents.
* Every Proficiency can only have up to 3 points invested in any of them. But you can only have one level 3 Talent.
* To learn how to show allocation, Look at the Character Application templates in the discord

Proficiencies
Coming up with a core concept
Every Character, no matter their Race, age, or creed, has the same amount of Proficiency Points to spend: 8 Talent Points that they can allocate to any Proficiency Category.
Think about the kind of character you'd enjoy playing in the world of Pannotia. Consider these initial questions:
At a baseline, every character starts with the following Ability Totals:
*What kind of roleplay draws you in? Are you interested in political intrigue, slice of life, scholarly roleplay, the criminal underground?
*What kind of role do you envision your character filling in the scene you prefer? Are they a cunning merchant, a brave warrior, a wise scholar, a mischievous rogue, a powerful mage, a predatory vampire?
*Are there any particular races that interest you? Any curses or magic schools that stand out at a glance?

*Constitution:- 15
*Strength:- 6
*Dexterity:- 6
*Scrutiny:- 6
*Mystics:- 0
*Cursed:- 0

These Ability Totals increase with every Talent Point invested in a specific Talent Subcategory, so be sure to read the instructions on each of the Ability Sections and Talent Point Investment segments carefully. Each of the Ability Totals listed is capped at a maximum of 20 (Except for Constitution), meaning that even if all 8 Talent Points were invested in, say Strength, for example, the total cannot exceed 20 under the Strength Ability Total. Any Talent Point assignments that would exceed this limit cannot, unless otherwise stated in their Talent Point Modifier description. Mystics and Cursed Path have their own rules. They do not have a default Ability Total as they grant specific spells within each of their Magic Schools/Cursed Race paths. As such, these Categories are placeholders but also increase with a specific amount (As specified in their sections.) These will come into play later on in time but for now, just give DMs a general idea as to a Character’s familiarity with those subjects for dice rolls in Progressions/Newslets. ===Creating a Character Application===
Our community uses a character application sheet to help you flesh out your character and provide us with the necessary information. You can find the template for this in the #character-application-template channel on our Discord server. Open the template, press file, and select make a copy to create your own sheet, ready to go!
As you go through the following steps, you'll gradually fill out this application with details about your character.

Proficiencies List
As a note, character applications are not required to begin playing a mundane character on the server. Though an approved character application is necessary in order to join any system, such as the crime system or progression system; it is also a requirement to engage in any sort of combat roleplay, unless everyone present acknowledges the lack of an approved character application and agree to continue the combat roleplay regardless.
Ability Modifiers and Talent Skills
Cursed and Mage characters must have a posted character application in order to be played, though the character may not reference nor use their abilities or spells until the character application is fully approved.

By default, every Talent Point investment has some sort of Ability Modifier. Ability Modifiers can be additional points to place in your Ability Totals (Constitution, Strength, Dexterity, etc), additional Talent Point investments and in some cases, character skills. Character skills will be explained below with each of the Skills listed, but pertain primarily to combat. You may also be granted access to unique abilities in game, such as gaining a familiar, getting progression/newslet benefits or even unique in-game builds. When you invest Talent Points in a specific Talent Point subcategory, you gain all the benefits listed. If you invest more than one point, you gain all the perks from the previous tiers also, but you do not stack the base Ability Point boons from that Ability Category. For example, for every one point you invest in a specific Talent subcategory under Constitution, you gain +1 overall in your Constitution Ability Total. But if you invest 2 Points in a specific Talent subcategory under Constitution, you gain +3 overall in your Constitution Ability Total. For 2 Points, you only get the +3 overall Constitution Ability Total and not the +1 from the 1 Point investment. They do not stack.
Origin, Name, and Appearance
With your concept forming and your application ready to be filled, it's time to start pinning down some of the more foundational, concrete details about their identity.

Proficiencies
Race: Based on your concept, which of the available races feels like the best fit for your character? Which ones interest you the most? While the races each have their own page, a simple summary of each is below:
Proficiencies are useful for direct comparisons when Characters compete, and general skill checks, like Constitution to maintain a jog or Strength to hold a door closed. There are six proficiencies:
*Humans: Adaptable and fractious, found throughout Galudon and mainland Aesox.
* Strength dictates your character’s total Strength. Generally speaking, the Strength Ability total will primarily derive from your character’s martial combat prowess.
*Dwarves: Honest, resilient, and long-lived, the Dwarves are a belligerent but steadfast people.
* Constitution dictates your Hit Point total. Maintaining a healthy mindset and lifestyle (by placing Talent Points into Constitution Talent Categories) increases your overall Hit Point score
*Venyra: Elegant high elves with a strong affinity for magic and hextech, primarily from the western land of Ellawren.
* Dexterity dictates how limber your character’s body has become through practice, tutelage, and plenty of repetition.
*Thalzar: Fierce dark elves, the warrior caste of the elven people, also from Ellawren.
* Scrutiny dictates how experienced your character is in perceiving the world around them and represents perceptiveness and intuition.
*Nephi: Wild wood elves who live in harmony with nature in Pannotia's forests.
* Mystics the magical capabilities of characters. There are no Talents to invest in here, as they follow specific magic schools with their own tiers of spells.
*Eiruks: Ingenious orcish engineers, now a free people after generations of servitude.
* Cursed dictates all Cursed Races
*Giruk: Quick-witted but small goblins, the offshoot cousins of the Eiruk.

Combat System
Age: How old is your character? (Please note they should be within the range of 18-200!)
How does Combat work?
Galudon’s Combat roleplay system revolves around four crucial factors, each playing a significant role in determining your character's performance in battle:
Appearance: Fill the relevant sections with key details about your character's appearance. What do they look like? What kind of clothing do they typically wear? How tall (or short) are they?

Constitution: Represents your hit points, determining your resilience in battle.<br>
Strength: Reflects your prowess in delivering attacks during combat.<br>
Dexterity: Measures your agility and ability to dodge incoming attacks.<br>
Scrutiny: Measures your quick wit and initiative order.<br>

In any combat scene, Roll Strength ability total to hit, and Dexterity to dodge. The highest roll prevails. You have the freedom to flavour these rolls according to your character's unique abilities as long as the essence of the game remains intact.
Personality and Backstory
Now that you have a clearer idea of who your character is, let's start to detail their personality and backstory!
*Personality: What are your character's core personality traits? Are they kind and compassionate, aloof, ambitious? What goals drive them forward - money, fame, family? How do they appear to others, and how does that differ from who they are inside? Aim for at least three paragraphs - one for how they are within, one for how they come off to others, and a final paragraph for their main goals and aspirations.
*Backstory: What key events or experiences have shaped your character? Consider their race, origin, upbringing, major life choices, significant relationships, and any pivotal moments that have defined them, as well as how this led to who they are today. You don't need to include every twist and turn, but make sure to cover the broad strokes and the key details! Aim for at least two paragraphs.

When a player hits 0 HP, they are incapacitated and require healing. While a killing blow can be dealt, it's not mandatory. If your character dies, there's no need to worry! Revival is possible within the game's Revival Mechanics, providing a safety net and allowing players to focus on the thrill of combat rather than the dread of permanently losing a character.
Think about how your concept so far fits with your personality and backstory. Does it feel cohesive? Is there something you want to go back and change?

Advantage vs Disadvantage
Now, let's discuss a crucial part of increasing your chances of succeeding in our CRP system: Advantage and Disadvantage. Influenced by Talent Point Investments and Skills, these modifiers can turn the tide of battle in your favour or against you.
Spending Your Talent Points
Now it's time to invest in your character's capabilities and attributes!
You have 10 Talent Points to spend on any Talents.
You may spend up to 5 of your Talent Points on Combat Talents.
At most two Talents can be at Tier 3 (T3) overall.

* Disadvantage: Players incur a disadvantage in various ways, either using weapons and skills they aren’t proficient in or being under the effects of an ability or spell. This requires rolling two Ability Total rolls, using the lower of the two results.
Talents are divided into two major groups: Professional Talents and Combat Talents.
*
* Advantage: Advantage provides a boon to characters with certain Talent Point investments or Skills. In this case, players roll two Ability Total rolls, selecting the higher result for their attack.
*
* Opportunity Attack: An attack of opportunity occurs when an opponent seizes the opportunity to strike with advantage. This reaction triggers if a player moves 2 blocks away from their opponent within their turn. Essentially, the opponent can attack with advantage, meaning they have a better chance of hitting their target.

Movement
Professional Talents
* Disengage Action: Players must take a disengage action to utilise their full movement potential and leave combat. When a character attempts to disengage, they must roll their Dexterity against the Dexterity of opponents within range. Failing this check allows the opponent to launch a free out-of-turn attack against the fleeing character, with Advantage, if the attacker's Dexterity roll exceeds that of the fleeing character. When a player intends to move more than 15 blocks away from their opponent, they must roll disengage or return to their previous spot.
These are divided into the following categories:
*Military: Navigation, Piloting, Warfare, Command
*Occupational: Metallurgy, Cooking, Engineering, Architecture
*Study: Academic, Language, Arcane, Apothecary
*Clandestine: Connections, Subterfuge, Deception, Operations
*Exploration: Wayfaring, Botany, Animal Handling, Perception
*Performance: Sports, Arts, Gymnastics, Tomfoolery

Evasion Points
Combat Talents
* For every 2 points of Dexterity above 6, the player gains one additional Evasion point.
These are divided into the following categories:
* By spending 1 EP on your turn, you can successfully evade an opponent’s attack.
*Vanguard: Gearknight, Chirurgeon, Guardian
* These points are handy for dodging attacks or making a quick getaway during combat. But once you've spent all your EP, you'll have to roll a disengage to flee the scene safely. To disengage effectively from combat, spend an EP point for every opponent within opportunity attack range (2Blocks).
*Skirmisher: Blade Dancer, Berserker, Duelist
* You can disengage from 1 person per EP spent without a roll, up to the number of EP spent.
*Eliminator: Gunslinger, Artillerist, Ranger
* EP is recovered at the end of a combat scene.
*Strategist: Assassin, Hunter, Overseer
*Mystic: Chaosweaver, Dreadbinder, Hellcaster, Galecaster, Gladewalker, Rhythmage, Spellbinder, Technomancer, Thanotist, Last Remnant, Tundrathurgist, Virotechnist, Hemurgist, Auximancer, Rune-Knight
*Cursed: Vampire, Werewolf, Lich, Empyrean, Aurumvitae

Initiative
Attributes
The initiative system in Galudon's combat ensures a fair and dynamic combat environment where every player's action is meaningful and contributes to the flow of the game. At the outset of combat, all players roll their Scrutiny Ability Total to determine the initial attack order.
You have 14 Attribute Points to invest into your character's Attributes. The attributes are:
* Tiebreaker: In the event of a tie, the tied players roll initiative again to resolve the deadlock and determine the precise sequence of combat actions.
*Constitution: Your character’s sheer durability and stamina.
*Strength: Your character’s raw physical power.
*Dexterity: Your character’s speed and deftness.
*Scrutiny: Your character’s intellect, senses, and general awareness.
*Mystic: Your character’s mastery of the magical.

Magic/Range
For those interested in the intricacies of combat, you can find a detailed explanation on our Combat System page.
* Standard Range: By default, all ranged and magical attacks have a maximum range of 15 blocks (emote range). Exceptions may exist based on specific Talents or Skills detailed in the system.
While discussion is strongly encouraged before killing another character, permission is not required. But don't fret! Should your character meet an untimely end, our community offers a system for Character Revivals, ensuring death is not the end. More information on this can be found on the page.

Skills
In some cases, Talent Point Investments may grant your character particular skills. These skills have their own mechanics and cooldowns and may be found on the Skills page.
Finalising your Application
Take a moment to review your character application thoroughly!
*Ensure that all sections are complete and that the information you've provided is consistent and reflects the character you want to play.
*Double-check your talent point allocation.
*Make sure no sections are left blank.
*Check that your username is at the top.

Submitting your Application for review
Once you are satisfied with your character application, it's time to submit it for review by our narrative staff! To do this, please create a new thread in the #character-application-submissions channel on our Discord server.
In your thread, please post a link to your completed character application. Our team will review it and provide feedback or approval as soon as possible.

Welcome to Ironhurst, the vibrant capital of the Kingdom of Galudon! This guide will walk you through the steps of creating a unique and engaging character to bring your stories to life within our community.

Coming up with a core concept

Think about the kind of character you'd enjoy playing in the world of Pannotia. Consider these initial questions:

 • What kind of roleplay draws you in? Are you interested in political intrigue, slice of life, scholarly roleplay, the criminal underground?
 • What kind of role do you envision your character filling in the scene you prefer? Are they a cunning merchant, a brave warrior, a wise scholar, a mischievous rogue, a powerful mage, a predatory vampire?
 • Are there any particular races that interest you? Any curses or magic schools that stand out at a glance?

Creating a Character Application

Our community uses a character application sheet to help you flesh out your character and provide us with the necessary information. You can find the template for this in the #character-application-template channel on our Discord server. Open the template, press file, and select make a copy to create your own sheet, ready to go! As you go through the following steps, you'll gradually fill out this application with details about your character.

Cursed and Mage characters must have a posted character application in order to be played, though the character may not reference nor use their abilities or spells until the character application is fully approved.

Origin, Name, and Appearance

With your concept forming and your application ready to be filled, it's time to start pinning down some of the more foundational, concrete details about their identity.

Race: Based on your concept, which of the available races feels like the best fit for your character? Which ones interest you the most? While the races each have their own page, a simple summary of each is below:

 • Humans: Adaptable and fractious, found throughout Galudon and mainland Aesox.
 • Dwarves: Honest, resilient, and long-lived, the Dwarves are a belligerent but steadfast people.
 • Venyra: Elegant high elves with a strong affinity for magic and hextech, primarily from the western land of Ellawren.
 • Thalzar: Fierce dark elves, the warrior caste of the elven people, also from Ellawren.
 • Nephi: Wild wood elves who live in harmony with nature in Pannotia's forests.
 • Eiruks: Ingenious orcish engineers, now a free people after generations of servitude.
 • Giruk: Quick-witted but small goblins, the offshoot cousins of the Eiruk.
 • Nymphs: Mysterious beings born from the land itself, with diverse connections to nature.
 • Infernals: Charismatic but volatile individuals who appear from ancient battlefields on distant isles.
 • Ferox: Diverse animal-people with a staggering range of appearances and cultures.
 • Tzchaari: Skilled bug-like artisans from a faraway island, now venturing into the wider world.

While not races, there are also several arcane afflictions that can heavily change a character's nature. These come both in the form of the Curses, powerful and infectious mystical plagues such as Vampirism and Lycanthropy, and more unusual Diseases such as the mutagenic Kaymer's Pox, or even becoming Undead.

Origin: Where in the world of Pannotia did your character originate? Were they born in Ironhurst, a rural hamlet in Aesox, the Elven lands of Ellawren? Think about their race and concept both! The Early_Life_in_Galudon page provides some educational institutions that might help narrow down an identity, as may their race's page.

Name: Choose a name that feels appropriate for their race and origin. Consider any naming conventions or cultural sounds that are common for their people.

Age: How old is your character? (Please note they should be within the range of 18-200!)

Appearance: Fill the relevant sections with key details about your character's appearance. What do they look like? What kind of clothing do they typically wear? How tall (or short) are they?

Personality and Backstory

Now that you have a clearer idea of who your character is, let's start to detail their personality and backstory!

 • Personality: What are your character's core personality traits? Are they kind and compassionate, aloof, ambitious? What goals drive them forward - money, fame, family? How do they appear to others, and how does that differ from who they are inside? Aim for at least three paragraphs - one for how they are within, one for how they come off to others, and a final paragraph for their main goals and aspirations.
 • Backstory: What key events or experiences have shaped your character? Consider their race, origin, upbringing, major life choices, significant relationships, and any pivotal moments that have defined them, as well as how this led to who they are today. You don't need to include every twist and turn, but make sure to cover the broad strokes and the key details! Aim for at least two paragraphs.

Think about how your concept so far fits with your personality and backstory. Does it feel cohesive? Is there something you want to go back and change?

Spending Your Talent Points

Now it's time to invest in your character's capabilities and attributes! You have 10 Talent Points to spend on any Talents. You may spend up to 5 of your Talent Points on Combat Talents. At most two Talents can be at Tier 3 (T3) overall.

Talents are divided into two major groups: Professional Talents and Combat Talents.

Professional Talents

These are divided into the following categories:

 • Military: Navigation, Piloting, Warfare, Command
 • Occupational: Metallurgy, Cooking, Engineering, Architecture
 • Study: Academic, Language, Arcane, Apothecary
 • Clandestine: Connections, Subterfuge, Deception, Operations
 • Exploration: Wayfaring, Botany, Animal Handling, Perception
 • Performance: Sports, Arts, Gymnastics, Tomfoolery

Combat Talents

These are divided into the following categories:

 • Vanguard: Gearknight, Chirurgeon, Guardian
 • Skirmisher: Blade Dancer, Berserker, Duelist
 • Eliminator: Gunslinger, Artillerist, Ranger
 • Strategist: Assassin, Hunter, Overseer
 • Mystic: Chaosweaver, Dreadbinder, Hellcaster, Galecaster, Gladewalker, Rhythmage, Spellbinder, Technomancer, Thanotist, Last Remnant, Tundrathurgist, Virotechnist, Hemurgist, Auximancer, Rune-Knight
 • Cursed: Vampire, Werewolf, Lich, Empyrean, Aurumvitae

Attributes

You have 14 Attribute Points to invest into your character's Attributes. The attributes are:

 • Constitution: Your character’s sheer durability and stamina.
 • Strength: Your character’s raw physical power.
 • Dexterity: Your character’s speed and deftness.
 • Scrutiny: Your character’s intellect, senses, and general awareness.
 • Mystic: Your character’s mastery of the magical.

For those interested in the intricacies of combat, you can find a detailed explanation on our Combat System page. While discussion is strongly encouraged before killing another character, permission is not required. But don't fret! Should your character meet an untimely end, our community offers a system for Character Revivals, ensuring death is not the end. More information on this can be found on the page.

Finalising your Application

Take a moment to review your character application thoroughly!

 • Ensure that all sections are complete and that the information you've provided is consistent and reflects the character you want to play.
 • Double-check your talent point allocation.
 • Make sure no sections are left blank.
 • Check that your username is at the top.

We're excited to see the character you create, and welcome you to the world of Pannotia! If you have any questions during this process, feel free to ask on our Discord.
