Primate Ferox
Throughout Ferox history, subtypes who evolved alongside each other would amass into societies based on their shared animal ancestry, and share certain universal traits. While there are countless tribes, clans, and civilizations of Ferox certainly yet to be discovered, the wider world is aware of some forefront Ferox societies which have shaped the general perception of each Ferox subtype. In general, Ferox of certain animal types are often perceived in the context of their Dominant Culture’s history, especially by other Ferox. All players should read the Dominant Culture for the type of Ferox they plan to play, even if they plan to use player lore, or establish their Ferox in a different culture. Ferox do not exist in a vacuum. A guide to submitting Player Lore is coming soon!
Appearance and Biology
Primate Ferox include all ape, lemur, and great ape attributes. They vary in height from 4’5” to 6’11”, but they vary even more in weight, running the gamut from small and nimble to large and bulky. All are flexible and agile, and many have a prehensile tail which is capable of grasping objects. All have opposable thumbs, with either human-like feet, or primate-like feet with long toes and a big toe that acts like a thumb. They can have fur that resembles that of their animal counterpart, and often human-like faces, with skin tones mirroring any natural Human hues. Many have large, sensitive ears, and large eyes in an array of colors, as well as hair in natural tones. Primate Ferox are notably able to shout very loudly. They are capable climbers, runners, and jumpers, depending on the traits from their animal ancestry. The maximum age for a Primate Ferox is about 90 years.
Diet
Primate Ferox will eat just about anything, though they are particularly fond of food that has a strong, pleasant smell. They sometimes experience strong cravings, and interpret these urges as just their body’s way of signaling a need. So, for example, a Primate Ferox might feel a sudden craving for salt, and go right for the nearest pickle jar to steal a swig of brine. At times, their impulsive cravings may be off-putting to hosts.
Dominant Culture
The most well-known culture of Primate Ferox is the monastic Order of the Green Palm. These Ferox see themselves as a force acting on behalf of nature, sometimes called Nature’s Hands, as they take an active role in defending the natural world. Their philosophy is largely pacifistic, though they train some of the strongest martial artists in Pannotia at their many Temples founded across the world.
In the World
Because Green Palm monks travel from temple to temple, often spending years in various cities around Pannotia, many in Galudon have a general image of the monastic Ferox who are quick to laugh, and just as quick to defend downtrodden people or overlooked parts of the natural world. They’re not the type of people one wants to mess with, in terms of crossing their very clear boundaries. However they are also easy to get along with, and make for funny conversation partners. They sometimes come off a little quirky, though on the other end of the spectrum, can be deeply ascetic and devoted to the discipline of their martial arts. They often partner with political candidates who promote natural conservation, or populist ideologies of equality and generosity towards the poor.
