Lycansbane, also known as Lupus Pernicies in more academic circles, is a popular plant that has ties to many mythos worldwide. This one, in particular, has to do with Lycans and the so-called poison they are that deters many of them from attacking individuals. While it isn’t wholly correct with such, it is a detriment to many of them and is known for calming them from their rage. Granted, they become docile upon ingesting it, so someone would have to get particularly close to it have its desired effects. The bush itself is rather simple to the eye and common throughout much of Galudon and in many forests beyond where it originates.

History

The shrub was initially found in the early days of Galudon when the first settlers arrived on the landmass. Many humans found themselves using the bush and the relatively simple yet pretty purple flowers upon it as decoration in gardens and amongst many parks and gardens. However, the actual ability of the bush was found out when a Lycan began harassing a small village and ended up consuming some of the flowers and parts of the shrub in its rage. The creature soon became rather limp, stumbling off into the dark as it had suddenly mellowed out and wasn’t seen again for some time. Some believe it killed the Lycan, while others believe the new Lycan was the same, but much of it is lost to history itself.

While many individuals waved it off as a one-off occurrence, many of the hidden Lycans found it peculiar and began looking into the plant. One botanist among them soon began testing on it, hidden away from the pack’s location. It soon became apparent that the plant, both the flower and the shrub’s leaves, gave many of them a strong high effect when ingested. However, it also left many with an illness for several days afterward. Still, it swiftly became apparent turning it into a smokable substance let them enjoy the high of it without the substantial illness following it. It’d leave them docile for days at a time before a paranoia began to eat away at many of them who’d become reliant on it. A swift way to an addiction many had noted, keeping many of them from taking it because of it.

Either way, these days the bush, now known as Lycansbane, is found in many forests worldwide and largely in the countryside of Galudon. Many have used it as a decorative plant that survives anything, even winter.

Appearance

The shrub is easy to blend in amongst many other shrubs and bushes with similar coloring, that of a soft green that turns into a dark pine tree-like green during the winter. However, the one thing that stands out amongst the plants is the purple flowers that grow in small bushes upon the shrub, releasing a pleasant aroma of something akin to a mix of lavender and lilacs. The plant is known for keeping its flowers in the cold of winter as well, although no one is entirely sure why or how the plant survives, leaving it to be a hardy creation of nature itself.

Uses and Capabilities

There is only one primary use of Lycansbane, that of a heavily addictive drug substance for Lycans, and oddly enough, Ferox and Half-Ferox.

While it was initially found to have a high effect on Lycans, it was also discovered by a Half-Cat-based Ferox that took the substance after being offered such by a curious Lycan. While it didn’t provide an intense high like it did for many Lycans, it still offered a low and soothing effect to Ferox and Half-Ferox. This was how it swiftly came into circulation in many drug rings; several Feroxes and Half-Ferox became peddlers of it in the less-than-savory black markets. However, it became a major epidemic for Lycans and the paranoia it caused. It has also been noted to work on other individuals as well, but not to such an extent, swiftly becoming an item overdosed on due to people taking too much of it in an attempt to get a similar effect.

Trivia

  • Lycansbane became the nickname after one individual found a near comatose Lycan who had ingested a near lethal amount of the bush and thought it had died on an intense high. They did not.
  • Many have been tempted into becoming a Lycan due to the promise of the enhanced effects it has, however, this mostly works on the truly desperate addicts.
