Feline Ferox
Throughout Ferox history, subtypes who evolved alongside each other would amass into societies based on their shared animal ancestry, and share certain universal traits. While there are countless tribes, clans, and civilizations of Ferox certainly yet to be discovered, the wider world is aware of some forefront Ferox societies which have shaped the general perception of each Ferox subtype. In general, Ferox of certain animal types are often perceived in the context of their Dominant Culture’s history, especially by other Ferox. All players should read the Dominant Culture for the type of Ferox they plan to play, even if they plan to use player lore, or establish their Ferox in a different culture. Ferox do not exist in a vacuum. A guide to submitting Player Lore is coming soon!
Appearance and Biology
These Ferox take on attributes from all felines, ranging from big cats like lions, leopards, tigers, and cougars, to domestic short and long-haired cats. They can have fully furred skin in any natural color depending on what species they resemble, or human skin which may or may not include coloring that resembles fur patterns. Long hair on the head may reflect cat-like patterns or typical human colors in blonde, brown, auburn, red, and black. Their teeth can be quite prominently pointed, with some ancient lineages even maintaining long saber-toothed incisors. All Feline Ferox have ears and a tail, as well as striking eyes that have a reflective quality in low light. Eyes come in colors ranging from blue, brown, green, yellow, orange, and violet, and possess excellent low light vision with the ability to dilate the pupils at will - a trait that makes Cat Ferox excellent at giving big expressive looks, coupled with the body language of their ears and tails.
Feline characteristics can be as all-encompassing as an animal head on a bipedal body, complete with fully furred skin and an elongated muzzle, or as minimal as ears and a tail with catlike eyes and otherwise human-like anatomy. There is a spectrum between these extremes as well, including options like digitigrade or plantigrade legs, areas of fur and skin, and catlike noses and mouths on otherwise human faces. Their height can range from 5’0” to 6’7”, and they can live to be 70 years old.
Feline Ferox need plenty of sleep. It is not uncommon for one to routinely insist upon twelve hours of sleep a day, which often stretches further into the morning, allowing them to be awake late into the night.
Diet
While they make for excellent guests, often indulging in fine food and witty conversation, these Ferox have a strong aversion to anything that dirties their fingers. The sensation of food on their hands or mouth will make them very uncomfortable, which can make them avoid food entirely. Many Feline Ferox also have very particular textures which they cannot abide by any means, and some will even be sure to carry a safe-food with them that they can eat if they are traveling outside of their home for dinner. This is such a common practice that other Feline Ferox don’t think twice about it, though some non-Ferox hosts may take offense.
Dominant Culture
Feline Ferox are represented by The Udjamu Cities, whose powerful presence is felt across all of Pannotia’s Ferox Clans. This ancient civilization was able to thrive early and establish itself as a major economic and cultural player. Two of the three major cities still hire sellswords to raid other populations, and capture others to bring back as enslaved laborers.
The third, liberated city has founded the world-renowned Courtesans Guild, and uses their culture of beauty and art to establish a better way of life for all.
In the World
Feline Ferox are often considered among the most beautiful people in the world, be they entertainers or warriors. Their reputation, however, is in something of a flux state. Feline Ferox bear a brutal history of being slave-owners due to the Udjamu Cities outdated traditions, though any business person or trader knows that to please the Feline Cities means gaining access to an incredibly wealthy market. In recent decades, the Udjamu City of Amsai has completely outlawed slavery, and thus is slowly repairing trust for Ferox who now openly reject the ownership of any person. The founding of the Courtesan’s Guild has also had a substantial effect on the public opinion of Feline Ferox, with sophisticated and intelligent Courtesans lending an air of respect to those who stand beside them. Whether detested or beloved, Feline Ferox are generally approached cautiously until one knows whom they are dealing with.
