The Somnia Mint, otherwise commonly referred to as the Dream Mint, is a small herb-like plant that’s blue in nature with a puff cloud on top of it. However, it’s more known for its rising popularity in the Aurumvitae circles and particularly hard drug-addicted individuals for the dream-like visions it gives people when smoked. These visions are claimed to be the Fae speaking to individuals when, in reality, it has been proven it hypes people up into an almost sleep-like state, and their own imagination goes wild. However, there have been some cases of individuals claiming to see the Fae Wilds when taking the Somnia Mint for long periods of time.
History
Notably, this herb was unintentionally brought to Pannotia at large, brought by seeds of the herb lingering on the Dawn Moths that travel to and from the realms at large. Some believe the Dawn Moths frequently eat the Dream Mint to continue their migration between the two realms, although no one is particularly sure how true that is. An individual in Galudon had come across the herb one day growing and, when testing it, found out the effects of such a plant rather quickly after ingesting it. With an intense mint-like flavour when eaten and the large quantity used, the man was put into a near coma-like state after foraging on the herb, assuming it was just a trick of the light on the plant’s colour. However, when he recovered from the state, he spoke of voices and wild lands beyond mortal comprehension.
Most have taken to it being an intense herb when ingested; however, other testing has proven that it is not as nearly fatal when only smoked. Alchemists have found it to be rather useful when diluted from its natural state and boiled down to an elixir mixed with other components to offer easy rest.
While many individuals disapprove of the use of the Dream Mint, people still grow them in greenhouses and hidden away in the forests of Galudon at large. Those that sell it on a legal front and even grow the plant under the watchful consideration of the various universities and the careful eye of the Copperguard, given its addictive nature, when not diluted properly into alchemy. However, when used in small doses and turned into sugar crystals, the Dream Mint offers a refreshing flavour used in desserts.
Appearance
The Dream Mint itself is a small shrub-like plant that grows around the forest floor and near various flowers when found on plains. The plant itself is a long plant with a large variety of leaves that grows into that of a puffball-like blue ball at the top with a distinctly minty aroma to it. The leaves are frequently eaten by wildlife and seem to be a natural sleep remedy for many animals that forage them. However, the puffball top of it appears to be the more intense part of it, frequently providing more intense visions when rolled into a cigarette and smoked.
Notably, it blooms throughout spring and seems to infest areas rather quickly despite its odd look, growing in large clumps and even less-than-thrilling properties. However, when the temperature rises, the flowers swiftly seem to lose their thriving properties and are quickly removed from wherever they had infested.
Uses and Capabilities
There are three main uses that individuals use it for; an intense vision-creating drug that, when ingested, causes people to hallucinate for up to three days or even longer if not portioned properly. When smoked, the herb has a less intense reaction and provides a high and visions of peaceful dreams, however, when it wears off after several hours people are known to be highly anxious from the drawbacks afterwards.
The secondary use of it is for medicinal and alchemical work. The leaves of the herb are boiled down, and the essence is drawn out into manageable doses, which are then used to assist with sleep and nightmares. However, it is highly advised that individuals who handle it are professionally trained alchemists to avoid a coma-inducing dose for those who aren’t careful.
The third and final use is in high-end culinary dessert dishes as fancy garnishes for a more intense mint flavour. Typically, the leaves are dried out and then dipped in sugar to solidify over time, then placed atop either ice cream or baked goods to offer a crunchy yet minty burst of flavour with a softer dessert.
