Character Creation
Overview
This magical line of knowledge has evolved over the centuries. Starting out as the ‘wise people of the forest,’ this particular brand of magic is concerned with manipulating elements. Past historical texts mention village ‘wise men’ or ‘wise women’ who were able to help during droughts and other natural disasters. These magics eventually formalized into ‘Galecasters’ when numerous elven armies hired them to ensure their ships sailed across the seas in a timely manner. There are no actual founders of galecasting - mages wishing to master this line of magic must find a Master Galecaster to study under. Galecasting can take years to master, although young prodigies have been known to exist. Galecaster Prospero Sputton is a famous Master Galecaster - and taught seven separate apprentices over his lifetime. These apprentices carried on his work, and four of whom are currently still alive and working on developing additional magics. Master Galecasters Jacinta Prewett, Marcus Cowl, Barry Kay, and Bridget Olean are considered the current experts in their fields.
Spells
Tier One - One Point Invested
- Imp Familiar: This is a passive ability and requires no action from the user. The user has a small, two foot tall imp familiar of any gender. It cannot be used for combat, but can perform minor utility actions such as turning on or off a light, collecting a drink from the bar, etc.
- Plasma Transfiguration: The user holds one of their withering objects in each hand, which crystallizes them into hard, dark crystal melee weapons of the user’s choice. The user's hands are completely encased for the duration of the spell and cannot be used for any other utility.
- Chiaroscuro Barrier: The user draws upon the light and darkness of their withering objects, generating a 3 x 2 block wall of glimmering light and plasma purple/black darkness that absorbs all oncoming attacks that connect with it for as long as the caster remains focused.
Tier Two - Two Points Invested
- Borealis Blasts: The user is able to shoot five blasts of light and dark energy from their palms that deal the same amount of damage as if being struck with a blunt melee weapon. This ability can be used once every 3 hours.
- Dusk of Despair: The user focuses their energy, exerting a large plume of dark smoke in a 8 x 8 block radius around their body that acts as complete darkness to anyone caught within it. It lasts for two minutes and can only be used once every hour.
- Lure of Chaos: If the user places a hand upon another person, they may impart a command upon another person that the person must obey. This however cannot be anything that the receiver would have strong feelings against, such as committing a heinous crime, betraying a threatening secret or doing harm to oneself. However, if the receiving player consents to a more severe command, this is permitted. Once the command has been fulfilled, the mages hold over the person ceases, and the person performing the command will believe they acted of their own free will. This ability can be used once per day.
Tier Three - Three Points Invested
- Brood Master: The user uses up both of their withering items in order to bring four battle-bred imps into being that will take two blows each to defeat but can also attack a foe to do damage equal to being struck by blunt weapons. The imps can be used as meat shields for the caster, but the caster themselves cannot actively engage in combat until all imps are defeated. This ability can be used once every 3 days.
- Screams of the Fey: The user uses up both of their withering items and snuffs out all light sources in a 10 block radius in order to create a small, three foot dimensional hole to the Fey realm. Nothing can enter the hole but bellowing, ear piercing noises emit from the hole in a 7 block radius in front of the caster that incapacitates everyone caught in said radius for 3 minutes and causes those hit by it to experience bleeding ears and deafness for one hour. This ability can be used once every 3 days.
- Beacon of Peace: The user uses up both of their withering items to fire a three foot wide beacon of light above them from their hands. This can be used to alert others to the users whereabouts as the light even breaches anything in its path (Contact a staff member to make a world announcement and set up a beacon where you are stood) and also causes anyone within a 7 block radius of the user to immediately drop to their knees until the user finishes casting. The user may cast this light as long as they wish, but must raise both hands to the sky. If the user is damaged, hit or is successfully distracted, casting will immediately end. This ability can be used once every day.
