History

The conception of the Reaper Battery originated in the idea that anti-aircraft guns could be built to be more precise and accurate. The primary problem, how to maximize damage and ensure that the shell possessed enough propulsion to reach its target. Furthermore, how to maximize the skill of artillery general staff so that hits are more reliable. So they set to work on a prototype. Elias Holland took a personal touch with the project, discovering that propulsion power and expense would be the largest barrier to innovating in this area. Cannons were already reliable, flak guns even more so, but he needed to develop a cannon that could simply remove an airship from the field in a single shot. Eventually, the Reaper Canister was developed, ammunition fitted with a hardened tip made of lightweight alloy, enough to pierce the hull of strong airships. When tested, the canister worked to specifications. Now all that remained was the cannon itself.

The cannon needed to be long-barreled, sat and positioned on a rotating platform that could adequately pitch and yaw as necessary to acquire its targets. Fixed to the side, above the seating area for the machine’s pilot was a sight to assist with aiming the cannon, able to be adjusted to meet the height of whoever operated it.

Construction

The Reaper Battery is built to assembly-line specifications, meaning that it can be assembled in parts at different locations within any given factory. That being said, it is more expensive to produce given its accuracy and firepower. The barrel is produced from a metal alloy of titanium and iron, and is built for length and stability both. Beneath the cannon itself is the breech, a large mechanism with a gear adjusted latch to secure the canister within the barrel. Due to the force expended from the cannon, the hydraulic recoil catch in the rear of the device is large and rotund, able to eject itself opposite the firing vector of the projectile to ensure the cannon’s stability.

Main Invention

The Reaper Battery fundamentally is an improvement on the traditional artillery cannon, prioritizing firepower and accuracy. When properly deployed and manned, machine operators are able to strike airships from the sky with a single shot. The Reaper Canister, the explosive deployed when fired, is known for its cruelty. When the device detonates, it spreads in all directions, shredding hull and flesh alike. An implicit result of operating the Reaper Battery, the invention requires skilled operators. As a result, the operators of the Reaper Battery are the envy of the Kingdom.

Characteristics

Physical Characteristics

The cannon is quite large, larger than most preexisting artillery batteries. The barrel is long and ebony in color, with a seat placed aptly beside it with rapt attention to giving the operator the best line of sight from his seated position. The platform it is built on is circular, featuring a pivoting surface in the center that rotates to allow for versatility and adaptability to the changes in battle.

Application

The Reaper Battery is used to snipe airships, to obtain air superiority and air cover during engagements, and to revolutionize the artillery industry.
