Invention Tutorial Guide
One of the standout features of technology in Gears of Galudon is the opportunity for players to create their own unique and imaginative inventions. While the possibilities are limitless within the boundaries of the game's lore, there are essential points and steps that players must understand before embarking on the journey of inventing new technology. This guide is designed to assist and inform those with the talent point investments in engineering to bring their ideas to life.
How to Create an Invention
Creating an invention on Gears of Galudon involves a two-step process. Firstly, players must begin by drafting a detailed blueprint (via Google Doc) for their invention using the provided template below, but before doing so, it is imperative to review the invention rules, which outline what can and cannot be created. The template includes sections where players must describe, in detail: The invention’s construction process, the materials used, its power source, any collaborators who assisted and finally the intended purpose of the invention. Please be as thorough as possible, as detailed blueprints will help streamline the approval process.
Once the blueprint is complete, submit it as a Google Doc via a ticket on the Gears of Galudon Discord. Clearly state your intent to create the invention, along with the character apps of any characters who were part of the inventing process.
After submission, staff will schedule an in-character roleplay session with you to test the invention. During this session, a narrative staff member (DM) will evaluate the invention. If any flaws are identified, the DM will provide subtle guidance on how to improve it. If no issues are found, the DM will confirm the invention's success during the roleplay and follow up on the original ticket to finalize approval.
Invention Rules
- Only characters with talent point investments in engineering can create inventions.
- Characters with talent point investments can invent anything from any tech type, however Hextech must also involve a character with at least 2 talent points invested into Arcane Knowledge.
- The level of success as well as the general size and power of the invention will be based entirely on the level of engineering talent point investment that the character has and whether or not the device being created makes logical sense within the boundaries of the Gears of Galudon lore.
- All inventions must fit the steampunk setting. This means that no invention can be from a time period that would be modern day, cyberpunk or dieselpunk for example.
- Your invention must not be a carbon copy of an already existing invention in real life. We value creativity, and would like to see what players can come up with! Inspiration however can be taken from a real life invention.
- Staff withhold the right to deny any invention that does not conform to the lore norm, or apply any detrimental effects that would result in the inventions balancing.
Invention Blueprint Template
- Tech Invention Name: This merely requires you to title or name the invention being created.
- Invented by: Please provide the character name and sheet if applicable of the individual who invested this tech.
- History: Provide, at minimum, two paragraphs of lore about the invention and how it came to be created.
- Construction: Detail the process in which this invention is constructed/created.
- Physical Characteristics: Describe what the invention looks like and how its pieces move, if applicable.
- Applications: Describe what uses the invention has. Additionally, also note any weaknesses the invention has.
- Business/Individual who Owns the Invention: List your in character business, sponsor, or whomever will technically own the invention here.
